April 26, 2017 - Chemistry Olympiad 2017

Every spring, high school students in the Georgia Local Section participate in the United States National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO) competition. This year over 1,000 students from 35 different high schools across our region competed locally. While the average score on the local exam was only 40%, the minimum of score for the 13 finalists this year was at least 71% and the high score was a 92%.

On Saturday April 22, 2017 these students took the three-part, day-long national exam at Kennesaw State University. The 20 top scoring students from the National Exam will spend two weeks at a study camp to undergo rigorous training. Based on their performance, four students from that group of twenty will be chosen to represent the U.S. at the International Chemistry Olympiad competition in Nakhom Pathon, Thailand this July 2017.  Visit website for more information about the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO) program »
